Counselling offers a regular space to talk about the issues that you have in your life. You will meet your counsellor in a private and confidential setting. Your counsellor has the skills and training needed to help you explore your feelings and guide you through the issues affecting your life.
Counselling is a uniquely personal and voluntary process which, at times, may feel uncomfortable or difficult. If you are in crisis or feel you need immediate support, then counselling is most likely not right for you at this moment in time.
If you are thinking of counselling but feel anxious or unsure, a member of the counselling team can talk this through with you to help you with your decision.
We rely on the advanced payment of fees by our clients to ensure counselling is kept affordable and accessible to all.
About our service
If you would like to access counselling for yourself, you may qualify for counselling support through our Adult 1-2-1 service here at Rotherham and Barnsley Mind.
We offer up to 6 sessions and each one lasts around 50 minutes. These are usually held weekly, either in-person at our premises in Rotherham and Barnsley, or online.
How can this help me?
A counsellor will be matched with you after an assessment has been carried out.
Your counsellor will listen to you non-judgmentally and will support you to learn more about your feelings and emotions.
They can help you in identifying strategies and tools to improve your overall mental health.
Private sessions cost £45 per session and last 50 minutes. Evening appointments are available on set days. Private counselling services allow you to access our bank of qualified counsellors quickly. Our qualified counsellors have previously volunteered with R B Mind so we can be confident that they offer a very high standard of therapeutic competence.
Your referral will be screened by one of our clinical assessors and you will be allocated accordingly to one of our trainee or volunteer counsellors based upon your current presenting needs.
In order for us to provide you with the highest quality of service, we need to make a charge of £25 for initial assessments, and payment must be received in advance.
All our trainee volunteer counsellors work within the BACP Framework for Counselling Professions (2018) and are DBS checked. They are also required and committed to attend regular supervision provided by the clinical team at Rotherham and Barnsley Mind.
Costs per session:
Free sessions – subject to funding
£15 – Available for those whose income is under £20,000
£30 – Available for those whose income is above £20,000
