Derick’s Art’s & Craft Group
Creative Minds is a therapeutic arts and crafts group that encourages people to better manage their mental health and wellbeing through social engagement, discussions with others and peer support.
It is a stepping stone for those who have an interest in arts and crafts and exploring their creative side and, for those that may have accessed other provisions and are working towards becoming independent from services. It offers a valuable opportunity to meet others within the community, with similar difficulties or interests.
Art and craft materials are used to express feelings and emotions around tasks designed to promote growth, independence and feelings of wellbeing. Within the sessions, ice-breakers are also used to promote social engagement, along with guided meditations, mindfulness and relaxation techniques, all aimed to help clients develop their own coping strategies.
This project if funded through the Big Lottery awards for All funding and named after one of our service users who sadly lost his battle with mental health.
